Frequently asked questions Do I need a referral to receive physical therapy treatment? You may schedule an appointment with one of our Physical Therapists without a referral or prescription. However, most insurance plans will not pay for physical therapy without a written P.T. referal. How do I obtain a referral for physical therapy? A written referral may be obtained through a physician such as your family doctor or specialist. In most cases your physician will want to examine you before you are given a written referral. Click here to download a P.T. referral form from Physical Therapy of Sanibel. How do I schedule my first appointment? Give our office a call once you have a referral for physical therapy. We are open from 8:30-5:00 and will do our best to accomodate your schedule. While on the phone we will ask you some questions regarding your insurance policy. At the time of your first appointment we request that you come 15 minutes early to fill out documentation. What can I expect of my first appointment with the physical therapist? Your first visit will last approximately 60-75 minutes. Subsequent visits take between 30 minutes to an hour. Be sure to take your insurance card and P.T. referral with you to your first appointment. During this visit, your Physical Therapist will perform an initial evaluation in order to determine, in consultation with you, the most appropriate plan of care. This may include therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, postural training and modalities. You may also be requested to perform a home exercise program. Treatment techniques and number of therapy sessions vary according to your diagnosis and progress. |
